polka dot dress and a goodbye brunch

polka dot dress

Dress, Francesca’s (sold out, but this one has a similar cut!) | Leather sandals, Steve Madden (sold out, but love these) | Necklace, Anthropologie (old, similar) | Sunnies, Paul Smith**

I love dresses that do double-duty–I wore this polka dot number back in June for a guy friend’s bar birthday, and pulled it out again this past weekend for my college roommate’s going away brunch (she’s moving to Virginia and we’re all so excited for her!). Somehow, it worked perfectly for both occasions–a total bonus in my book.

Also, I hate to state the obvious, but I definitely wasn’t kidding when I said I had a whole lotta love for a good back detail–this dress features another cut out, and I feel like it adds a lot of fun and personality, especially paired with the girlie polka dots and a blingy statement necklace (if you haven’t noticed, I pretty much sleep in this necklace. I really should get another one…).

Bruch was out on Long Island at the Mill Pond Restaurant–fun fact: this little joint on the water was where they filmed several scenes for Something Borrowed, so naturally I was thrilled to be there (um, I kind of loved that movie–mostly because of John Krasinski). The food was yummy and it was so nice to fete our friend before she heads off on her new adventure (and plan the weekends that we’re schlepping it down to DC to visit her!).

The day ended with Ralph’s Italian Ices, a homemade (and delicious) meal by my roommate’s mom and my first (how is this possible?) bonfire of the summer. Is there anything better than smelling bonfire in your hair? I think not.

p.s. I got these sunnies from the fashion closet it work. I’m obsessed with them, but I’d never be able to buy them–gotta love those fashion sales!

summer chambray

summer chambray

Chambray, Madewell | White Shorts, GAP | Sandals, Steve Madden (sold out, similar) | Sunnies, Warby Parker | Turban, Anthropologie

I have to admit, my hopes weren’t high for this Memorial Day weekend–I mean, that weather forecast looked dismal (at best) and I almost got blown into the Hudson during my run on Saturday morning. However, our bonus day (Monday, woot woot!) came ’round and the sun came out in full force for a perfect Memorial Day. My roommates and I decide to take advantage and headed to Astoria Park for a little guacamole picnic and puppy watching (coughstalkingcough).

This is officially my favorite summer weekend uniform. I love the look of white and chambray paired together (totally screams vacation, right?) and the faux-turban scarf was the perfect upgrade to second-day hair (not even afraid to admit it!).

And you can’t really even tell it’s actually a headband, right? Kind of cheating, but it’s cute enough not to care–plus, is it just me, or is it impossible to actually keep a scarf on your head…mine always slip off!

What’s your weekend uniform? And how was your long weekend?!

napa bound

Happy Friday, guys! I’m signing off a little early this week to head to Napa, California (I’ve never been!) for a work trip–with hopefully a few sips of wine included! Because I probably won’t be able to get to it on Sunday, I’ve included my “Sunday Edition” links from this week below–there was so much prettiness out there, it was hard to narrow down!

-I kid you not when I say I’ve been waiting for this day. The Chicago home of Danielle Moss is up on The Everygirl. And you guys: It. Is. Amazing.

-Living in Astoria for the past year and a half, I’ve fallen in love with Greek food. How genius is this no-bake Greek pizza?

-Last year for my joint birthday party, I attempted (key word) to make my friend and I an ombre cake (see here). It didn’t come out very good, and this one from House of Earnest is definitely showing me up.

-I can’t even handle how cute these sombrero cupcakes are–if I was doing something for Cinco de Mayo, I’d definitely make them!

-Amanda let us in on her beauty routine and some of her tips are serious gold. Pop on over to learn a thing or two!

-I wish this entire outfit was in my closet. The entire outfit. In my closet. Right this minute.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend–whatcha got going on?!

easter weekend guide

I love Easter for a lot of reasons. Besides getting to spend time with my family, I love that it gives me the excuse to eat hard-boiled eggs all the time (which I LOVE). Most of all though, I love how Easter kicks spring into high gear. All of a sudden, it’s sunny and warm and happy–Easter is the beginning of all things wonderful about April through September. Definitely something worth celebrating, if you ask me! Here are a few suggestions as to how:

What are you guys up to this weekend? Wherever life finds you, I hope you have a happy one!

Just a few pretty things catching my eye around the web this week…

-Katie’s amazing Valentine’s gift idea for your guy (I’m probably going to buy it for myself, too).

-I love nothing more than getting my girls together–especially if there’s food involved. This Single Ladies Brunch from Design Love Fest is too cute!

-This social media etiquette post over on Design Sponge is a must read. Major don’ts? Negativity, bashing and over hashtag-ing

-Looking to give something sweet this Valentine’s Day? Try these homemade chocolate bars, as seen on The Vault Files.

-As a new-ish blogger, I’m constantly trying to stay fresh, so I loved Lisa’s post this week on creating original content.

-How adorable are Anne’s washi tape stickers? So easy and creative!

-We got Sugarfina products delivered to the office this week (and they were so. yummy.). Even cuter? Their fun giftsets–like this anti-Valentine’s Day one (sweet, even if you are pro-Valentine’s Day!).

life lately, according to instagram

From left to right: Matchy-matchy at work, Ellie Goulding at Terminal 5 (she was awesome!), Pretty finds from Brooklyn Flea,  Snow and a fur snood, drinks with work gals, amazing brunch at The Smith, a new favorite mascara, the best package ever (hello, GIRLS!) at work.

Welcome to Friday (finally)! This week was pretty tiring, so I’m looking forward to a litte R & R and a little friend time this weekend. Oh, and I’m headed to the salon tomorrow for a bit of a nerve racking cut and color (I’m thinking of something like this and this)–but I’m pretty excited! What are you guys up to?

Oh, and one more thing! I cannot thank you all enough for taking the time to take my survey. I was seriously blown away by the response and I’m taking your critiques and sweet words to heart–I can’t wait to make this space better for you in 2013! If you haven’t taken it yet, I’d love your last-minute opinion. Take it here–I’m closing it tomorrow!

Just a few pretty things catching my eye around the web this week…

-Ashley’s gorgeous outfit post. Is the girl working that skirt or what.

-Style Me Pretty released their annual “Best of Weddings” for this year. I’m not even close to the aisle, but I can’t stop looking at all the pretty nuptials.

-I’m unfortunately not making it to Alt Summit, but this list is proving invaluable anyways. So many new bloggers to check out!

-Can we talk about how crazy I am over Hollie‘s home, featured on The Everygirl this week? I pinned practically everything!

-Grace always comes up with killer DIY jewelry pieces, but this Anthro Inspired Tulle Bib Necklace is perfection.

-Jacquelyn always has the most perfect food posts, but this recipe for Pear & Cinnamon Tartlets takes the cake.

-I’m really trying (hard) to keep plants alive these days (I stink.), so Brynn’s adorable roped planters are right up my alley. I love the neon!

the perfect fall weekend (and the perfect fall cocktail)

There’s something about autumn that’s so magical. The crisp air, the changing leaves, the renewed energy everyone has after the long and lazy summer has passed. This past weekend was the perfect combination of fall, friends and, of course, food.

A rainy Saturday night presented the perfect opportunity to pour together one of my favorite fall cocktails. Whenever I’m out, whiskey gingers are always my choice sip, but I’ve come to love a hot toddy when the weather gets cool. It warms the soul, as they say.

You’ll need:

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons whiskey (you can also use rum or brandy)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teabag, soaked in 1 cup hot water
  • 1/4 lemon

Boil 1 cup water (or use your Keurig) and soak a tea bag (English breakfast works fine!) until the tea is a dark brown shade.

Pour honey into the bottom of an irish coffee cup, coating the base.

Add the whiskey, juice of the lemon and the hot tea. Stir to combine and garnish with a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!
